Hi, everybody is able to learn german - you too.

If you want I'll help. A lot of germans are speaking english here. It has to be learned in school. If you would like to have some help, dont hesitate to email me.

You should not move to Germany.

Germany is not the "golden land" anymore...

Too expensive, the taxes are too high....

WHEN do you think to move to germany?

have a look around your town (if you come from a town/city) if there is a Goethe Institute there or near you.take a course in german language there and get as much info and help as

you can. since the institute is sponsored by the german government, similar to the british council offices overseas they are cheaper than a private company (to learn geman).

DONT go to germany if you don't have a fixed job offer and a place to stay. what do you think you will do in germany to earn a living? if you are single and working some 40% takes the taxman.( pension fund, uneployment, insurance and of course TAX)

don't think you will arrive there all will be ok and they will take you with open arms.

if you have property or a flat back home, don't sell it. leave it empty for a month or two, at least you have a place to go to if you have to go back. only if you are comfortable in germany rent out your place.

find out if there are some german sites on the net (based in germany where you can ask questions and get reasonable answers. we have one in moscow www.expat.ru... that helps newcomers to russia, maybe there is a link to germany...)

You should try to learn some german before you get here. It will be easier for you, when you have to communicate with the migration-officers and so on.

And you should look for work, before you come here. I think that won't be to difficult to find something. Or maybe you're a millionaire, than skip that.

And I think, that it is very important to speak the language of the country you live in. It's a question of courtesy I think. And the only way, to understand fully what the people around you think and feel.

I lived for some years in Mexico, so I learned spanish. Nearly every Mexican speaks english, that wasn't the problem, but it was much better to understand the people when they talk amongst themselves.

Hi Melissa, of course it will be hard to go to a foreign country without knowing a word of its language. But if you really try to learn, if you are willing to make it, you should do it. It's worth the experiences you will make. You can take German (as a foreign language) lessons, try to meet german people and use every German word you know. Foreigners call German a difficult language and it really is, even for Germans (sometimes). But a lot of people are speaking English as well.

It's not hard at all to live here without being able to speak german. English is almost our second language^^

No, really. The people will understand you and signs in public places or something like that are often written in german and english.

Of course you should learn german if you intend to live here, and german is a difficult language - very confusing sometimes, even for me although it is my first language. You could visit the VHS (Volkshochschule; nearly every german city has one) and take a course in german. That's not too expensive and it's a good start.

Yes. You could learn German in school or courses.

German is a difficult language. So depends a bit where you come from - because of grammar ;)

Why are you interested in moving to Germany?

If you want you can write email. You're welcome.

I have a couple of colleagues who did not speak any German when they came to Germany - some of them still do not speak German. You will get along - however, especially when having to go to the authorities to get a VISA etc. it would be helpful to at least be accompanied by someone who speaks German, but even that is not vital. Do you already have a job? If not it may be difficult to find one depending on what kind of job you are looking for. If you are a student then you won't have any problems at all. Good luck.
